Making preparations

Admission and deadlines

Admission can be processed twice in every calendar year:*

  • The deadline of applications for the autumn admission procedures for programs launching in February is 15 November.
  • The deadline of applications for the spring admission procedures for programs launching in September is 15 February.

Deadlines of applying to foreign languages programmes may differ from the above dates and vary by institutions.


Visa and residence permit 

Students from the European Union, the European Economic Area and students being citizens of countries listed in the 539/2001/EC council regulation Annex II. may travel to Hungary without visa. They may apply directly for the residence permit upon arrival to Hungary if their prospected stay exceeds the period of 90 days. In order apply for a residence permit please follow the same procedure as described below.

Foreign students from outside the European Union, and not being the citizens of countries listed in the 539/2001/EC council regulation Annex II. are required to apply for a visa. The application may be submitted at the Hungarian diplomatic mission or consular post in the country of your permanent or habitual residence. If there is no such mission there, you can turn to any other Hungarian diplomatic mission or consular post. When applying for a visa, you are supposed to submit a certificate of your student status. The process of issuing the visa may take one month.

Insurance 

Residents of the EEA (European Economic Area) countries and Switzerland, who are entitled to the health care of the national health service can receive health care free of charge in Hungary on the basis of the European Health Insurance Card.

Residents of countries which signed bilateral agreements with Hungary are also entitled to receive health care free of charge in urgent cases. Participants of international student exchange programmes and scholarship holders in Hungary are entitled to free medical care as well.

Residents of third countries have to pay full price for the health care services in Hungary. Foreign residents studying in Hungary may obtain health insurance by signing an agreement with National Health Insurance Fund (OEP) and paying 30% of the local minimum wage per month (23 400 HUF; approx. 90 EUR, 130 USD).
